Mattress Event!
Huge Savings Throughout the Store
July 12, 2011
We are right in the middle of our big Mattress Event. As the sign says, there is a huge selection, and huge savings throughout the store.
All mattresses are on sale, but we are particularly excited about the new Memory Foam mattresses by Easy-Rest that we have just received.
Memory foam is becoming more and more popular because of all the great benefits it offers. It conforms to the contours of your body - it feels soft, but offers excellent support.
It disperses your weight more evenly, which provides comfort and helps relieve pressure points. In fact, some hospitals use memory foam mattresses to reduce the occurrence of bed sores. For essentially the same reasons, memory foam mattresses can also help relieve joint pain.
Because of its density, it retains motion - if your bedmate moves in the night, it won't affect you (those of you with wiggly bed partners will appreciate this feature!)
OK, so memory foam sounds great - but why should you come to Hometown Furniture Center for your memory foam mattress? Because we are offering some of the best prices around!
Look at these comparisons between our EasyRest memory foam mattresses and a leading brand name (these prices include mattress, foundation and metal bed frame):
Twin: Theirs - $1,288.00 | Ours - starting at $489.90
Full: Theirs - $1,588.00 | Ours - starting at $559.90
Queen: Theirs - $1,888.00 | Ours - starting at $689.90
King: Theirs - $2,288.00 | Ours - starting at $929.90
So come on down to our Mattress Event and give our mattresses a spin. You'll be glad you came!

Deck Out Your Yard for Summer!
July 12, 2011
Now that summer seems to be here (fingers crossed - don't want to jinx anything), it's time to move the party outdoors. And at Hometown Furniture Center, we have plenty of decorator items to spruce up that deck or patio.
You don't have a spend a lot of money to make your yard look "new" for the summer - just a few accent pieces here and there, and voila!
Like our wood and metal hangings for exterior walls, such as the sun ornament shown here, ranging in price from $10 to $40.
Or cute little butterflies to decorate the garden, from $5.00.
Or even artificial flowers. Now, before you start with the "Ugh! Artifical flowers!" let's talk about the benefits - they save water, they're easier to maintain, they can be very realistic looking, and at Hometown Furniture Center they are VERY affordable - often 50-60 cents. So why not spring for a little spray of flowers here and there to fill in empty spaces around the yard?

Flying High At Hometown Furniture Center
May 10, 2011
While you’re in our store, make sure to visit one of our newest museum pieces. This beauty sat on a trailer for 17 years before making the trip from the desert of Joshua Tree, California to the airspace of Hometown Furniture Center.
It’s a bright yellow sailplane (glider) with an amazing 56 foot wingspan. Though we’ve tried to photograph it, pictures just don’t do it justice. You have to see it for yourself.
Most gliders, including ours, do not have engines. Standing underneath it, it’s amazing to think that a plane of this size could fly using only the wind, but this one did and probably still could.
How did it do it? According to Wikipedia, “gliders benefit from creating the least drag for any given amount of lift, and this is best achieved with long, thin wings and a fully narrow cockpit.” When you come stand beneath our sailplane you will see the long wings (Four 6’ tall men could lie head to toe on just one wing with space leftover!) and the very small (some might say claustrophobic!) cockpit.
We bought our plane from a man who built it with his father back in the late 70’s or early 80’s. He told us that with the right winds and cloud conditions, he could stay up all day in it!
If this plane captures your imagination and you want to know more about building your own plane, the ThirtyThousandFeet Aviation Directory will keep you busy all day with its links to Homebuilt and Experimental Aircraft Websites.

Holiday Decorating Throughout the Home
By: Ellen Bell
December 7, 2010
Most of our holiday decorating is usually centered around the main living areas of our home. Usually the living room and family rooms are the first areas to be decorated, and the many other rooms of the house often times go forgotten. Today, however, many homeowners are decorating other rooms of their home, in addition to the living room. Here are a few ideas to help you get started decorating some other rooms of your home:
Kitchen: While most people don't have a lot of wall space in their kitchens due to cabinets and windows, there are certain things that can add a festive touch to this area of the house. If you have an open area above your cabinets, this might be a perfect spot for that Victorian sleigh and Santa Claus that you want to put out, but don't want the children to play with. A beautiful holiday plate or bowl on a clear plastic plate stand would really dress up the back corner of the counter top, along with a coordinating holiday cookie jar. Trading out your normal kitchen towels and rugs for ones that coordinate with the rest of your holiday decorations as well as your table linens gives a unified look.
Four Season Porch or Sun Room: A sun room or porch is the perfect place for a lighted tree at night because all the windows make it very visible to the surrounding area. This is also the perfect place to get a little whimsical with your decorations, too. The children will love a bright tree and funky decorations. Perhaps you would prefer a country or historical décor in this room. Popcorn and cranberries strung on a green tree are a sensory pleasure. Whichever you choose, be sure to add all the small touches you like, this is an area where adding more clutter just makes the end result look better.
Bathrooms: Like the kitchen, trade your everyday towels and rugs for holiday linens. If you have room on your bathroom countertop or vanity, add a small, decorated topiary-type tree. Some Christmas hand soaps are a nice touch. Since most of these rooms are small, a wreath is always a nice way to add a bit of the holidays without taking up too much space.
Bedrooms: Bedrooms are great places to add some holiday cheer that will be enjoyed by each member of the family individually. A small artificial tree is always a welcome pleasure to a child who is old enough to understand safety. Letting the child pick the ornaments or make paper ornaments to decorate the tree will make it that much more special. A stuffed Santa Claus and holiday bedding or throw can top off the child's room. For adults, a small lighted tree, wreath and candles can make a peaceful place to get away from the holiday rush.
One thing that remains a staple in holiday decorating is the Christmas tree and wreaths that can be used just about anywhere in the home. As you expand your decorations throughout the house, your need for holiday storage will also grow. This requires a concerted effort on your part to be organized and efficient in storing your holiday decorations. When decorating an entire house, one of the most efficient ways to store your decorations is by room. With appropriate labeling, the trees, wreaths, and ornaments can be distributed to the appropriate location and then opened up. This same procedure can be reversed when it is time to un-decorate the house.

How to Design the Space You Want
By: Marla Blagdon
May 17, 2010
Not sure what to do after choosing a style (contemporary, casual, traditional, etc...) and colors? Then try these helpful suggestions.
1. Whether you are planning a party, wedding or decorating a room in your home, start big and end small. For instance, if you are decorating a room, select your wall colors, window treatments and larger furniture items first. Next choose mid-sized items like area rugs, side tables, coffee tables and lighting. Then finish by adding personal touches-- throw blankets and pillows, wall art, and coffee and end table decor. While it may be tempting to begin with accessories, try not to. It can cost more in the long run if you end up with accessories that do not blend with the bigger, more expensive pieces in your room.
2. If you like to display collectibles, group them together in one space. This will create a focal point that people will gravitate toward. If you have a large collection, limit the number you display at one time, then rotate your pieces periodically. Each time you change your pieces, you add a pop to your room without spending any money. Plus, it keeps you and others from getting tired of your collection.
3. Use repetition to keep the eye moving around the room. For instance, use the same color in the art you hang on each wall or repeat a fabric throughout the room. This will give your space a polished, "did you hire a designer?" look and feel.

What's New This SPRING?
PLENTY!
March 15, 2010
More than plenty, actually. At least that's what our employees repeatedly said while they unloaded the two semi-trailers jam-packed with all the furniture and accessories we ordered for our Hometown Furniture Center customers. Once we finished arranging every last item in our store, though, all of us agreed that, like candy, our spring collection is both good and plenty.
This brings us to what's new and exciting in the world of furniture and accessories: nature and natural fabrics like cotton blends, damasks, wool and velvet. (Stain resistant, of course.)
FURNITURE
It's all about bringing the outside in. Customers want tables--dining, pub, coffee and end tables, and TV consoles in light, medium and dark woods with slate and agate accents. So we bought a wide assortment for you to choose from. And while we bought plenty of tables, we bought even more TV consoles since they go out our doors almost as fast as we get them.
Sofa and love seat recliners are also popular, as are sectionals. Again, we have an array of choices in the sizes, colors and fabrics you want, especially when it comes to this year's most popular patterns -- camouflage and animal prints.
For those who hear the call of the wild, come in and check out our hand-made chairs with animal fabrics. We also have some very comfortable cabin-style sofa and chair collections. What makes some of these collections unique is the use of shot gun shell casings for rivets.
A bit tamer in your furniture choices? Not to worry. We bought a variety of contemporary, modern and traditional sofas, chairs and loveseats upholstered with natural fabrics in a diverse selection of solid and popular prints for you to choose from.
OFFICE CHAIRS
While office chairs were not the first item on our shopping list, we couldn't pass up the great deals the manufacturers gave us--deals we are passing on to you. So come on in and give these chairs a test drive. We know you will find a one you can't live without.
MATTRESSES
Tired? Check out our mattresses. We know you will find "just the right one" at Hometown Furniture Center. If your back hurts but your wallet is lighter than air, check out our new Coriscana mattresses. If you are on the heavy side and crave more mattress support, have we got good news for you! Englander has just come out with a special mattress and we have it in stock. While most mattresses are made with a single layer of coils, this mattress is made with two layers of coils and heavier edge wire.
LIGHTING AND AREA RUGS
Arc and floor lamps are particularly in demand. While many furniture stores have little stock with few styles to choose from, rest assured, Hometown Furniture Center is NOT one of those stores. As you can see from our photos, whether you want Modern, Contemporary, Traditional, or Eclectic, we have them for you.
"Electric shag" best describes this season's area rugs. Available in colors from lemon-lime green to coppery brown, these area rugs add that touch of shimmer needed to give your room some understated pizzazz. Not the shimmer type? Not to worry. We still carry a large selection of natural rugs in a variety of patterns and colors.
ROSEBUDS AND STAR LANTERNS ACCESSORIES
Nothing reminds us of nature like flowers, particularly delicate rosebuds made from birch. Yes, you heard right, we actually found birch rosebuds in a rainbow of colors. They are as beautiful and natural as living rose buds, but they last much longer. Indulge yourself! Choose one of Hometown Furniture Center's many reasonably-priced artsy vases and fill it with a bouquet of birch rosebuds in your favorite color(s). To make your bouquet even more heavenly, mist it with some rose-scented essential oil.
Good news for those of you who have been calling us for the 24" x 24" Star Lanterns. They are in and we couldn't be happier! We at Hometown Furniture Center are particularly proud of our star lanterns. First, they are hard to find--yet we did. Second, while they are popular in other places, Oregonians seem to be the first to really embrace star lanterns, which makes perfect sense. After all, star lanterns are part nature, part art and part magic, just like Oregon. So get a star lantern or two to hang in your house and on your deck or patio, That way you can enjoy a little bit of magic year round.
EVEN MORE ACCESSORIES...
Since accessories are the best and least expensive way to add new life to your home, we ordered a good and plentiful selection for you. Here are just a few of the "inspired by nature" accessories you can expect to see when you shop at Hometown Furniture Center--metal table decor, three panel screens, metal rimmed mirrors, and bumblebee and butterfly garland.
MIKE'S PRIDE AND JOY ANTIQUES MUSEUM
As our staff and many repeat customers know, owner Mike cannot stop adding to "his" museum, and this spring is no different. One such item is this soapbox derby car, but there are many more items. Many more. These are must sees, so come on in and ask him for a personal tour. Trust us, you won't be disappointed.
Ready to find out what else is good and plentiful at Hometown Furniture Center this spring? Then come on in and take a look. We guarantee you won't be disappointed. And if you get tired while shopping at Oregon's largest "one-floor" furniture store, kickback and rest in one of our chairs, couches, or loveseats for a bit.

Three Tips To Make Furniture Shopping Easier
By: Marla Blagdon
November 9, 2009
Here are three tips to make your furniture shopping easier:
- Buy furniture you not only love, but will use.
- Buy a piece or two that works in different settings. For instance this comfy truffle accent chair has a contemporary design and traditional upholstery. This combination ensures the chair will look great in a contemporary, traditional or eclectic room.
- Choose furniture that is the right scale for your room. Not only does it make it easier for you to rearrange your furniture when the urge strikes, it may make your family and friends think you were helped by an interior designer.
To buy furniture that is the right scale, simply measure the height, width and depth of the space in which you plan to put your new piece of furniture. Then take these measurements to Hometown Furniture Center. If you have trouble finding the furniture you want in the scale you need, simply ask for help. The folks at Hometown Furniture Center love making sure their customers buy exactly what they want.
Nine Ways Hometown Furniture Center Puts The HO-HO-HO In Your Holidays
November 9, 2009
1. First and foremost, Hometown Furniture Center's Year-End Clearance Sale starts BEFORE Christmas!. This allows you to spend less on your holiday shopping and/or get more bang for your buck (and we all know how important this is in today's economy). The Hometown Furniture Center Year-End Clearance Sale runs from the day after Thanksgiving to the end of January and will include items marked below cost. (Really!).
2. Shirley and Heather (aka Santa's Helpers) have finished decorating Hometown Furniture Center for the holidays. They decorate to put Christmas joy in your heart, inspire you to try something new when you decorate, and because they love doing it. Santa's Helpers do not rest until Hometown Furniture Center looks like Christmas at the North Pole. This is easy for them to do because over the years our Helpers have accumulated two semi-truck trailer loads of decorations. (Yes, we said two semi-truck trailer loads.) Why so-o-o-o many decorations you may ask? The answer is easy - Santa's Helpers never like to decorate the store the same way twice. They want you to be dazed and amazed each year.
3. So many people like Hometown's decorating that part of their annual Christmas traditions includes taking their official Holiday photograph at Hometown Furniture Center. After you see these photos, you'll know why. If you have not yet done this, don a festive outfit, grab your camera and come on in. Do it now while you still have plenty of time to turn your photograph into Christmas cards and mail them before the holidays.
4. Another way we at Hometown Furniture Center keep the Ho-Ho-Ho in your holidays is by selling so many different items you can literally do all (or at least a huge chunk) of your holiday shopping here. First off, unlike many other furniture stores, we stock a variety of thoughtful, inexpensive gifts for Christmas stockings, work and secret pal gift exchanges and hostess gifts.
For example, for $1.00 to $2.50 a piece you can put a few small Nascar Collectable cars in a Nascar lover's Christmas stocking. (This is quite the deal considering that these collectables are normally $5.00 to $6.00 each). As for work or secret pal gift exchanges, how about a rustic mini-tart pan Christmas ornament for $2.95 (this is one of our favorites); or a beautiful white Poinsettia candle ring for $1.95; or a basket with a festive plant for $3.95? We also have candle rings that can be used year-around, as well as for Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc -- it just depends on the candle you use.
5. After selecting some stocking stuffers and hostess gifts, why not take a little time to choose some budget-friendly ornaments and holiday decorations for yourself? Look through our big basket of assorted ribbons. You can use this ribbon to wrap presents or decorate to your home and at $2.00 for 25 yards, you cannot go wrong.
6. Do you dread holiday shopping for family and friends? You won't once you come to Hometown Furniture Center. We have something for everyone which makes shopping painless and fun.
How about some gorgeous accent pillows made from a variety of quality upholstery fabrics for $9.00-$14.00? Or a bird house for the nature lover in your life? (We even have one with a "Ducks" license plate roof for that "Go Ducks" fan in your life.) Then there are our special vases, bowls and large urns. These items and more are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and price ranges.
Maybe your loved one would prefer a beautiful or fun framed photograph or print for her or his wall. If so, you'll find we have a large selection in both black and white and color. How about a photograph or print of a wild animal? (As you look around, you'll probably notice we have a special fondness for moose.) Then again, maybe a relaxing waterfall, sailboat, or a nature scene would be more to his or her liking. One of our personal favorites is titled "Dimples." It is a fun black and white photograph of four impishly smiling flappers at the beach in bathing suits. Of course all but their faces and legs are hidden behind sun umbrellas. Once you take a gander at it, you'll know why it will bring a smile to the face of anyone who looks at it.
If you are you looking for something a bit unusual, Hometown Furniture Center also has a variety of unexpected home accessories, such as a 36" wood ship wheel ($119.95) and a whimsically artistic 4' tall tin rooster that will not wake you up at dawn every morning.
7. No one knows better than those of us at Hometown Furniture Center how tiring shopping can be -- even when you are having fun. So we placed a large pond with splashing water fountains and the sounds of singing crickets and croaking frogs in our store. If you get tuckered out, feel free to sit down in a nearby comfortable chair, close your eyes and relax until you get your second wind. Don't worry; our sales people won't bother you.
8. Once you are rested, take some time to look at our furniture and you'll see we have quality furniture in every price range and style. And since furniture is used for years, it makes not just a wonderful gift, but a useful one as well.
Maybe you are in the market for a budget-friendly, comfy accent chair for television watching. If so, Hometown Furniture Center currently has a nice variety of accent chairs marked down from $399.95 to $299.95.
If you are looking for something unique how about a beautiful wood and leather chair? We also have a 40" x 52" x 20" Safari television console made from termite-free, kiln-dried wood of different grains and sizes that comes from the foothills of the Himalayas ($1,095). This unique console is one you have to run your hands across to truly appreciate.
9. Still not sure what to buy a special family member, friend or your sweetheart? Then purchase a Hometown Furniture Center gift certificate. It will keep the Ho-Ho-Ho in your spirit and make your special person very happy.
Hometown Furniture Center:
Is it a Furniture Store or a Vintage Planes, Trains and Automobile Museum?
By: Marla Blagdon
July 17, 2009
Lucky for all of us, the folks at Hometown Furniture Center just can't stop themselves from making furniture shopping fun for women and men alike--especially married and soon-to-be-married men. Yes guys, you heard right. You will actually enjoy tagging along with your furniture-buying women when you come to Hometown Furniture Center. Why? Because Hometown Furniture Center is also a vintage Planes, Trains and Automobiles museum.
Okay, so maybe there is only one plane hanging from the ceiling, but it is a beaut -- a 1946 Ercoupe that spent most of its life in Orange County, California. And maybe saying "trains" is stretching the truth a bit, but so what? You can see trains any day. What you can't see any day (unless you travel to England) is an honest-to-goodness, London transit, double-decker bus.
As for the automobiles, well let's just say there are enough antique automobiles to keep you playing, e-r-r, shopping, for hours. Think about it. When did you last spend time with a 1927 Chevy Flatbed County Truck from Hood River, Oregon? Or a 1934 Chevy Panel Truck? Or a 1925 Model T? There is also a natty little two-tone 1956 Nash Metropolitan that is not to be missed. Oh, and don't forget to check out the "still road-worthy" 1925 Model T pick-up... wait a minute, maybe we shouldn't be telling you this. After all, we don't want you getting any ideas about hot-wiring this baby...
As if the plane, double-decker bus and automobiles aren't enough, Hometown Furniture Center also has an Ore Cart from the New Almaden Quicksilver Mine in California. If you are a history buff you may know this mine was one of the richest silver strike mines in the United States. Obviously this Ore Cart has earned its heavenly retirement at Hometown Furniture Center.
At this point, you may be asking yourself why a furniture store would spare valuable retail space for a vintage Plane, Automobiles and Double-Decker Bus museum. Good question. About seven years ago, the kind folks at Hometown Furniture Center decided they wanted to make life easier for all the men who lagged behind their furniture-buying spouses. Sure, some men came into the store willingly, but almost any guy would get tuckered out following his gal around a furniture store big enough to cover two football fields end-to-end, and since it is common knowledge that most men love pretty much any vehicle with a motor, the idea was born.
And has this museum ever been a hit. Not only do some men now drag their wives to Hometown Furniture Center to shop for furniture (wink, wink), thanks to word of mouth, news of Hometown Furniture Center's uniqueness has spread to other states. Not long ago, a man from Montana made it a point to come by while he was in Oregon. When asked how he knew about Hometown Furniture Center, he said he found the store on a "Places to Visit in Oregon" Web site and was too intrigued not to stop in.
Then there is the entertaining and fruitful story of an Alaskan woman who, while visiting her sister in Oregon, was relentlessly prodded into going furniture shopping -- something she really did not want to do on her vacation. It comes as no surprise that the Alaskan sister fell in love with Hometown Furniture Center, but what is a bit surprising is that she loved their furniture so much, she ordered an entire houseful of furniture and had it shipped to Alaska! This story serves as a wonderful reminder to us that at its heart, Hometown Furniture Center is a large furniture store filled with beautiful furniture at exceptional prices -- something both women and men always appreciate.
And for all you vintage vehicle buffs, please know that the store owners constantly add new "finds" to their museum. In fact, a 1933 29' sailboat is scheduled to dock at Hometown Furniture Center at the end of July.
So exactly where do the store owners find all these great antique vehicles? Well they run across some of them on their own (they are savvy buyers after all) and sometimes they hear about an item from a customer, or a customer who knows someone who knows someone who, well you get the idea...
All of which leaves some of us thinking that maybe Hometown Furniture Center should really be called Hometown "Fun"iture Center.
What's New at Hometown Furniture Center Will Really Surprise You...
Wedding Accessories and an Even Larger Selection of Silk Flowers!
July 17, 2009
The last couple of years Hometown Furniture Center has carried a colorful array of silk flowers because we know good flower arrangements are an easy, inexpensive way to turn a house into a home. Recently though, we've added even more silk flowers. An abundance of them, in fact. But don't worry if you find yourself overwhelmed by all the choices. Simply take a deep breath and ask a Hometown Furniture Center sales person for help. With answers to a few simple questions, your sales person will help you confidently select the perfect "splashes of color" for the rooms you want to liven up. While you are at it, you may want to purchase a couple different arrangements you can change with the seasons. Doing this will give your rooms a fresh, seasonal look with very little effort and expense.
The really surprising "What's New," though, is the Wedding Accessories. Yes, brides-to-be and wedding planners, you may now purchase an array of headpieces, headbands, flower petals, nosegays and pearls at Hometown Furniture Center!
Just think of the fun you brides-to-be will have trying on headpieces and headbands and designing bridal party flower bouquets and table center pieces all while shopping for (or at least looking at) furniture for your soon-to-be new home with our sales people standing by if you need help deciding which wedding accessories and furniture are right for you. And if you can't afford to purchase some furniture you love right now, why not add Hometown Furniture Center gift certificates to your wedding gifts registration list?

So let us help celebrate your special day by relieving you of some of your planning stress. That will free you up to enjoy your special day even more.
